So mother in law got pneumonia. After like three weeks of not doing anything about her health, she was taken to the doctor on Friday and everything was set in motion quickly. She was diagnosed, given meds and that was it.
I came home from work that Friday and expected to be driving her home since she had no car. My partner informed me that she had invited her mother to stay the night. I was naive enough to believe that this was a one night stay. I wasn’t told about anything either. So Saturday came along and I went over to her house, cleared the snow, fixed her car and everything was good. I came home and I realized – she wouldn’t be going anywhere at all. So she stayed for Saturday, and she stayed for Sunday and she stayed for Monday too. Her other daughter is supposed to visit her with her family from like Wednesday but looks like this is off too.
How long is she actually staying?
I don’t know.
And why haven’t I been informed?
Turn around. Imagine it to be my mother with pneumonia. Imagine her coming in on a Friday evening. I’ll tell my partner “oh hey, by the way, my mom is staying…”
I guess it would have been accepted for like a night, but really – just reaaaally would my partner accept my mom staying for six days? No way. Noooooo way. Absolutely no way. And without her being told? Nooooooo.

Why is it so different? Why do I accept this when I know it’s not the same the other way around?
